CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

- Made first free ascent & first one-day ascent of Yosemite's Mt. Watkins
- First ever free solo of Fitzroy (via Supercanaleta) in Patagonia

BACKGROUND

One of the most innovative climbers in the world, Dean Potter hopes to use his big wall and alpine skills in combination with his most recent obsessions of BASE-jumping and birdmanning to evolve the sport of climbing to another plane.

Dean is the only person to free climb Yosemite's Half Dome and El Cap in a single day. He also made the first free ascent of Mount Watkins, Yosemite's other Grade VI wall, as well as its first one-day ascent.

In Patagonia, Dean shocked the alpine world with three solos of the biggest peaks, Fitzroy and Cerro Torre. He made the first ever free solo of Fitzroy, via the Supercanaleta, and then followed it with the Compressor Route on Cerro Torre, becoming the first to solo both peaks. He topped it off by free soloing the first ascent of Californian Roulette on Fitzroy, a route that had been tried unsuccessfully since 1969.

Dean is currently working on a film that is breaking new ground in the climbing world, The Aerialist.
