BACKGROUND

Joanna is an accomplished triathlete excelling at all 3 distances - Olympic, half-Ironman, and Ironman – and she has won races each of the three distances. Joanna is also an Olympic trial qualifier in 3 different sports (swimming, marathon, and triathlon). Currently Joanna is in pursuit of one of the three women’s triathlon slots to represent the United States in Beijing at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Joanna also has been successful in the world of academia. After receiving her B.A. from Brown in Psychology in 1992, she went on to earn her M.S. in Genetic Counseling from Northwestern University in 1995. Motivated by the excitement of independent research, Joanna earned her Ph.D. in Genetic Epidemiology in 2001 from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Health. She continued on to become a Post-doctoral fellow at Hopkins, publishing five manuscripts in prestigous medical journals. Currently, she continues her genetics research as a Research Associate at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Co.

Joanna has encountered both severe asthma and near career ending back injuries during her career, yet she continues to be ranked among the top triathletes in the world.

Sarah Haskins and Joanna Zeiger both had great races Saturday at the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis, Sarah finishing in 2nd place and Joanna in 4th (Read More).

In grueling weather conditions, Joanna took 2nd place at the 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake in Lubbock, Texas this weekend. After a strong swim and through most of the bike, Joanna was handed a penalty card which set her back for the run. With a personal best in the run, she overcame Joanna Lawn to claim 2nd. On Sunday in excruciating heat, Joanna prevailed at Eagleman with an 8 minute lead over her next competitor. Way to go, Joanna! Zeiger Prevails at Hot and Heavy Eagleman

A hearty crop of elites jumpstarted their '08 seasons at TriSports.com's Desert Classic Duathlon Sunday. Canadian Paul Tichelaar outlasted the men's field for the run-bike-run victory in 1:24:33, while Boulder, Colorado's Joanna Zeiger beat all women on the 3.5-mile-21-mile-2.7-mile course with a smashing 1:38:29.
