BACKGROUND
Huntington Beach native, Lauren Perkins is one of the top female skateboarders in the world. Lauren started skating at the young age of 7 after asking her mom for a skateboard when a skate park was built near her home. Lauren would then spend her afternoons at the local skate shop, Aftermath. The little curly-haired girl picking out desks, wheels and bearings for her board caught the attention of the riders working at the shop. They started inviting the 8-year-old street-skate prodigy to hit the park with them and then later encouraged her to join the California Amateur Skate League (CASL). At the age of 10, Lauren entered her first contest in Oceanside, CA, where she was the only girl to compete with over 20 guys. Taking home 8th place was dissatisfying for Lauren, but it was the encouragement of the announcer that got her back on her feet. After the contest, she had her mini-ramp built in her back yard and the rest is history.
In 2000, Lauren became the youngest girl to compete at the All Girls Skate Jam. She took home 2nd place along with the attention of the head of Vans Pewee team. Lauren joined the team and by the age of 12, took 1st at the Gravity Games amateur contest, beating out 45 boys. She then stopped skating CASL and joined the Girls World Cup. That same year, Lauren shot her first movie, MVP II, with childhood friend and riding partner, Ryan Sheckler.
2002 proved to be a career-breaking year for Lauren. She took an impressive 1st place win at the All Girls Skate Jam in her home town of Huntington Beach, CA. She competed against some of skateboarding’s top riders and her favorite pros. Later that summer, she suffered her worst injury, pulling the ligaments in her ankle, which took her out for 5 weeks. Within the same year, Lauren managed to finish in the top 3 in the World Cup Australia, Women’s Street at the Slam City Jam in Vancouver, BC, the Triple Crown Finals in Oceanside, CA and the West 49 Canadian Open in Toronto.
Lauren continued to dominate the circuit. In 2003, not only did she make her first appearance at the Summer X Games but she managed to find the time to stunt double in Warner Brothers’ feature film, Grind. She also became the first female skateboarder to grace the cover of SG Magazine.
Within the next few years, Lauren made a name for herself by finishing in the top 3 in nearly every competition.
In 2008, Lauren fought a field of 17 competitors through the preliminary round at the finals to capture her first S3 Supergirl Jam title before her hometown crowd.
Lauren’s goal is to help girls’ skateboarding continue to grow and to create bigger, more important opportunities for female athletes.
Lauren is also a member of Girls Get on Board (GGOB), inspiring girls to participate in action sports and encouraging them to remain active and lead healthy lifestyles.
In her spare time, Lauren likes snowboarding, golf, photography and riding her fixed-gear bike and motorcycle.

On Monday, July 27th, Ryan Sheckler hosted his Second Annual Celebrity Golf Tournment for Charity at the prestigious Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club. Music and Entertainment was hosted by Sal Masekela of E! Entertainment and X Games fame. Proceeds support the Sheckler Foundation and the Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza Foundation.

On Sunday, July 26th Lauren Perkins signed autographs and met with fans at the DodgersWIN tent before the game.
Dodgers WIN (Women's Initiatives Network) is a network of initiatives designed to bring women closer to the game of baseball, and to intergrate baseball into Women's lifestyles.

July is without a doubt the best month of the year for the industry. Maloof Money Cup, US Open of Surfing, and the beginning of X Games are all going down. The weather is just right and the ladies of summer are out in full force. The perks of this gig is undeniable.
