BACKGROUND
Jill Kintner is one of the most dominant female cyclists in the world. With every title in 4X Mountain biking and every major title in BMX, Jill has prevailed across two sports.
Jill recently won the bronze medal in the inaugural Olympic BMX event in Beijing.
4X is a very fast, often furious, gravity fed sprint performed on a mountain bike that typically lasts 60 seconds or so down hilly, twisting, obstacle-dotted courses involving four riders racing head-to-head. The sport is like a hybrid between BMX and downhill mountain bike racing, an abrupt, frantic test of agility over varying terrain.
After a 5-year focus on mountain biking, Jill returned to BMX to attempt to qualify for the US Olympic Team.
A month before the final 2008 Olympic qualifier event, while at the UCI World Championships, Jill tore her meniscus and required surgery. With a successful operation and miraculous recovery, Jill was strong enough to compete in the event after all, earning the points necessary to take the lead among US women and soon to realize that she would likely be the only woman representing the United States as part of the Olympic team.
Jill began racing BMX in 1989 at the age of 8, turned pro at age 16, went into pro mountain bike racing in 2002 at 21, and now competes in both sports internationally.
Jill has lived all over the world including Seattle, Northern and Southern California, New York, Florida and currently owns a house in the Blue Mountains of Australia with GT teammate and boyfriend Bryn Atkinson. Currently Jill is living and training at the Olympic Training Center in San Diego, CA.
Jill was athletic from a young age, playing soccer for a nationally ranked club team, winning several State titles, a regional title, and MVP on her high school team as a freshman. She also played #1 tennis in high school while racing professionally in BMX.
Jill graduated from high school with honors, and studied Graphic Design at Rochester Institute of Technology and the California College of Art.
Jill’s brother is a professional BMX dirt jumper who has competed in major events like the X Games and the Dew Tour.
While she’s not competing, Jill still enjoys riding bikes, but also loves snowboarding, MX, tennis, hiking, golf, ping pong, being in the mountains, graphic design, photography and being home.

On the women's side the win belonged to Jill Kintner, a top American dual slalom and downhill racer who seemed to know her way around the pump track. She bested the North Shore's Micayla Gatto in the final by 1.82 seconds.
